WEEK 5 - SEJAHTERA AS LOCAL CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Assalamualikum Wbt. My name is AHMAD HAIKAL SYAHMI BIN OTHMAN, I'm from the department of Arabic language and literature.

Class Overview

Today, I came to the library with a few friends. We are having a look at the exhibition on historical personalities, some reading on relevant books, and just hanging around the study table. One book that was highlighted is entitled Rakyat Raja Dalam Kerajaan, suggesting the emphases could be on government, royalty, or Malay history. What we can say about this book is that it associates with SDG objective number four, which is excellent education, for we want to instill in the heart of the next generation patriotism and their origin identity for our country while including them in the Western culture.

Personal Reflection

Sejahtera urges us to wear spiritual and ethical glasses to perceive development-a shift in paradigm from "having more" to "being more." It questions the relentless pursuit of growth and upholds quality over quantity, community over competition, and harmony over dominance. In this regard, the wisdom of indigenous peoples from around the world can be drawn upon because through generations, there has been an argument that the needs of traditional communities are in keeping a good balance with respect toward nature. With Sejahtera, one recognizes that indeed, sustainable development encompasses not only conservation and resource management but also instills ethical values and meaningful relations that evoke one's sense of responsibility toward each other and Planet Earth.

On a personal level, embracing Sejahtera encourages us to nurture inner peace and resiliency within, as indeed sustainable change can start with our own individual efforts. It invites reflection on how we live our lives, whether we contribute to harmony or imbalance, and how we align our actions to be caring, respective, and responsible. By embracing Sejahtera, we are part of a well-being legacy that honors both our cultural heritage and our shared future and promotes a development model genuinely sustainable in spirit and practice.

Application Of Learning

Integrate into Various Disciplines Integrating Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Wisdom: Apply indigenous and local knowledge systems that reflect Sejahtera ideals, including care for the environment, consumption balance, and community values. Classes may provide students with traditional ecosystem-sustaining methods or take field trips to meet with leaders in the community or practitioners who live by these concepts.

Promoting Balance and Wellbeing in Student Life: Applying Sejahtera entails developing a balanced, supportive educational atmosphere. Schools and universities may encourage mental wellness, work-life balance, and a supportive environment. Encouraging children to rest, interact, and contribute positively in the classroom reflects the Sejahtera philosophy of overall well-being.

Conclusion

To summarize, Sejahtera as a local notion of sustainable development-provides a more comprehensive approach to the one traditionally adopted. Sejahtera is based upon cultural wisdom and advocates for well-being in balance, really, with its physical, spiritual, social, economic, and environmental components. By putting the accent on harmony, ethical responsibility, and social well-being, Sejahtera invites us to rethink progress in manners respectful of community, heritage, and the natural world. What may result from the adoption of Sejahtera as a guiding concept includes more compassionate, culturally relevant, and sustainable solutions. Other benefits include eliciting resilience not just in the individual but in the societies and ecosystems, and ensuring a legacy that would be relevant for generations to come.
